Acropolis - Parthenon

The most important and magnificent sanctuary of Ancient Athens, built on a rock in the center of the city. Its most impressive buildings (Parthenon, Erechteion, Temple of Athena Nike) are still adored as high points of architecture and artistic creation. Parthenon was built in honor of the Goddess Athena, as a symbol of prosperity, glory and prestige of the democratic Athenian state, in the 5th century BC, and was made entirely of white marble, that came from Mount Pentelicus, and was richly decorated in red, blue and gold. At the Acropolis you will also visit the Propylaea, the Temple of Aptera Nike and the Erechtheion.

Acropolis Museum

One of the most important museums in the world, the Acropolis Museum gathers the masterpieces of the Archaic, Classical and Roman times associated with the sacred rock of the Acropolis of Athens. The exhibitions, permanent and periodical, cover 14,000 sqm, at four levels. At the entrance, the glass floor reveals the findings of the excavations and the large glass surfaces on the walls of the building  allow for a panoramic view of the Acropolis and the Parthenon. It is the work of the Swiss architect Bernard Tschumi and the museum is an attraction itself because of the interesting architectural composition.
